Discover how Nicola decorates her modern home with black, white and grey.
When Nicola and her partner first reserved their new house, they fell in love with the black cladding of the house’s exterior instead of the usual yellow or red brick. As a big fan of monochrome décor, she decided to integrate this into the interior of the home.
“From that moment, we wanted to incorporate this style into our home,” she explains. Describing her style as ‘monochrome, minimalistic and modern’, Nicola quickly got started on creating a contemporary and inviting space with black, white and grey.
For her dining room, she went with a calming grey palette, chic black accents and cosy wood textures. To complement her look, she chose our Grange dining table in grey wood which fits right in with her colour palette. “I absolutely love the Grange extending dining table, not only does it look fabulous but I love the fact that it extends from a 6 seater to an 8 seater, which is perfect,” she says. “We were looking for a table that could extend when we had more friends and family round. The quality of the table is amazing as well.”
Nicola’s living room takes on a light, chic monochrome feel with a showstopping media wall as the focal point of the room. For that Instagram-worthy look, she wanted the TV fixed on the wall with a sound bar and fire under it and shelving on each side. “We have a 6 metre wall in our lounge and the space is perfect for it,” she says, describing the process. “This has created shelving and also plenty of cupboard storage which was lacking in the house before this.”
Nicola weaves monochrome touches into the rest of the room by playing with texture and contrast. She juxtaposes her cream sofa with black accents and artwork for a contemporary yet cosy look.
Maxing out on velvet is how Nicola brings comfort and relaxation to her bedroom. “We have a velvet bed and headboard with cotton sheets and velvet pattern pillows,” she says. Occasionally, she accessorises with some throws to her bed and is planning to add more wall décor. Next on her list is to get a large canvas artwork but she is still deciding what works best for her bedroom.
For the rest of her home, Nicola maintains a stylish balance by not going too overboard with black. “I have left all of our walls and skirting white, adding in the black doors and partly painting the banisters black,” she says. “We try our best to be minimalist and not to overly clutter our space.”
Her latest home project that she has completed is her home office which features a black built-in corner desk and shaker style cabinets. She is planning to add some black wooden wall panels to create a feature wall in her games room and dressing room. For the rest of the house, she is getting ready for her garden to be landscaped and ready for spring and summer next year.
