Art Deco is known for its clean, geometric lines and motifs. However, with this contemporary update, curves and circular shapes soften the sharp lines. This can be a round coffee table in the living room or scallop-shaped wallpaper for a feature wall.
Arches are one way of introducing curved motifs to the home. This could be arched doorways or transforming an alcove into an arch for a big impact. For a more subtle approach, choose a dining table or coffee table with round corners or a round rug to break up the straight lines of a room.
In this update, Art Deco takes inspiration from mid-century décor. While they may seem different at first, they have a few similarities. The new and improved Art Deco has retro influences with a muted colour palette and more emphasis on understated design. Herringbone flooring is a grounding way to bring these two influences together with calming texture and geometric design. Marrying luxe upholstery like velvet with the contemporary lines (or curves) of a retro-style sofa highlights the best of both styles.
